AHOSKIE – The Ahoskie Police are searching for a lone suspect who robbed a local convenience store at gunpoint Sunday night.

According to Ahoskie Police Captain Michele Garrett, a person entered the Duck-Thru located on Academy Street shortly before the store closed at 10 p.m. Garrett said the man, described as a black male between the ages of 35-40, was armed with a handgun.

“He approached the checkout counter where one of the clerks was standing on the customer’s side of the counter while the other clerk was at the cash register,” Garrett said. “At that point he grabbed the clerk standing on his side of the counter by the hair and then demanded money from the clerk at the register.”

The suspect made off with an undetermined amount of cash.

Garrett said neither of the female clerks were injured.

The suspect was approximately 5’-10” and wearing a blue silk flight jacket, blue jeans, a black toboggan and sunglasses.

Upon exiting the store, he was last seen on foot heading north on Academy Street.

Captain Garrett said after watching the store’s surveillance cameras, the clerks’ stories were accurate.

Anyone with information regarding the heist are urged to contact APD Lt. Detective Jeremy Roberts at 332-5011.
