Tarboro stops Bertie

WINDSOR – Tarboro broke open a tie game in the fourth inning and went on to down Bertie High School 15-5 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday afternoon.

Tarboro opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning.

Bertie came back to scoring one in the home half of the same frame.

Simon Hoggard walked and advanced to second and third on wild pitches. Zeek Williams then delivered an infield single. Williams stole second and Hoggard scored on an error on the play cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Tarboro added two more in the top of the second and led 5-1 after two innings.

In the home half of the third, Bertie scored four runs to even the contest.

Hoggard reached on an error, Williams was hit by a pitch and Cody White reached on an error to load the bases.

Hoggard scored on a Chris Mizelle RBI-single. Courtesy runner Malcolm Cherry then came home on a Hunter White bases-loaded walk. Cody White scored on a Devante Holley RBI-single to center. Mizelle then came home on a Noah Hayes single to tie the game at five-all.

Tarboro scored one run in the top of the fourth frame and then broke the game open with five runs in the fifth frame. The Vikings scored one run in the sixth and their final three in the seventh to establish the final.

Bertie had five hits. Hayes led the Falcons with two hits while Holley, Mizelle and Williams having one each.

Bertie is 0-8 and will host Edenton at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
