AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School won Tarheel Independent Conference outing number three here Monday afternoon.

The Lady Rams’ softball team downed visiting Albemarle School 10-4 behind a three-hit performance from pitcher Mary Kate Morris. Morris struck out 11 and walked just one during the contest.

Ridgecroft jumped out to an early lead when Emily Cooke got things started bottom of the first frame with a two-out double. She scored on an RBI-double off Morris’ bat to give the Lady Rams a 1-0 lead.

Albemarle scored in the top of the fourth to even the game thanks to a single by Laurie Cartwright, an error and a wild pitch.

The Lady Rams took the edge back in the home half of the same inning. Morris led off with a double followed by a Brice Harrison single and a two-RBI double off the bat of Lindsay Jacob as Ridgecroft led 3-1.

The home-standing Rams continued to add to their lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth frame.

Cooke led off with an infield single before Sara Hackney recorded a base hit. Tayler Smith then delivered a two-RBI triple before scoring herself when she got out of a rundown. Harrison, the hitter on the play, went all the way to third. She scored on a Lauren Colson single to make it 7-1.

The Lady Colts attempted to rally in the top of the sixth when they scored three times on a hit batter, two errors and a single to close the gap to 7-4.

Ridgecroft came right back, however, plating three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Cooke led off with a triple before Hackney reached after being hit by a pitch. Smith reached on a dropped third strike that also allowed Cooke to score. Both Hackney and Smith raced home on a two-out double by Colson.
