PENDLETON — Despite his attempt to flee through a window, a burglary suspect was nabbed by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office after a Sunday morning breaking and entering here.

Greg O’Neal Johnson, 24, of Boone’s Bridge Road, Pendleton, was taken into custody after he allegedly broke into a home.

According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, his office received a call at around 1:20 a.m. from a residence on Boone’s Bridge Road in reference to a subject trying to break in.

Deputies Jonathan Jenkins and Josh Langley arrived and made entry into the home.

Vincent said the family, which includes two adults and two small children, had locked themselves in a bedroom and was still communicating with the 911 dispatcher as deputies arrived. The caller informed dispatch that the intruder was still in the residence.

Vincent said as Jenkins and Langley worked to secure the home, the suspect jumped out of a window in an alleged attempt to flee the scene.

Meanwhile, Deputy Corey Jackson had arrived and was working to secure the outer perimeter of the home where he was able to subdue the suspect.

Johnson was charged with first degree burglary, possession of stolen goods and larceny after breaking and entering. He was placed in the Northampton County Jail on a $25,500 secured bond.

Vincent said the family was not harmed.

The sheriff commended the deputies for maintaining proper protocol and apprehending the suspect.
