SEABOARD — No injuries were reported following a wreck involving a Northampton County Schools bus near here.

On Friday morning, bus #226 carrying students on their way to Northampton County High School-West made impact with a passenger van on Highway 186, near the old Gumberry High School.

According to Northampton County Schools Assistant Superintendent Phil Matthews, he received a phone call reporting the incident to him around 7:25 a.m.

When Matthews arrived at the accident scene, one ambulance was at the scene and that later left empty. Reportedly there was another ambulance that left earlier, also empty. Law enforcement and fire officials were also at the scene.

“Everything was calm and under control,” he said. “To my knowledge there were no injuries.”

Matthews added the bus sustained damage to the front wheel on the driver’s side while the van was damaged on the front passenger side. Both came to rest in a field adjacent to a farm path and the highway.

Matthews said the students were placed on another bus and taken to school.

As of press time on Friday, the report from North Carolina Highway Patrol Troop C District 8 was still pending.
