JACKSON — The American Red Cross is looking for some “heroes” from Northampton County.

March is Red Cross month, a time when the organization promotes its services to the public and holds fund-raising events.

According to Kristen Ward, Director of Development with the Rocky Mount-based Frederick E. Turnage Chapter of the Red Cross, each March the chapter holds its Heroes Campaign. Heroes are individuals and groups that organize events.

“Heroes from Northampton County are wanted to arrange events, it could be anything from organizing a bake sale or a blood drive,” she said.

She added no heroes from Northampton County have been identified yet.

The Red Cross assists with an array of programs, including community services that help the needy, support and comfort for military members and their families, the collection, processing and distribution of lifesaving blood and blood products, educational programs that promote health and safety, and international relief and development programs.

The Frederick E. Turnage Chapter of the American Red Cross serves Northampton, Halifax, Edgecombe and Nash counties and can be reached at (252) 977-1720.
