AHOSKIE – An effort between the Ahoskie Police Department and the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office has netted the arrest of an Ahoskie man.

Gerald Lamont Whitaker, 27, was arrested Feb. 17 and charged with felony possession with intent to sell, manufacture and deliver a controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling for storing/using a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and four misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Whitaker was placed under a $58,500 secured bond and incarcerated in the Hertford County Jail.

According to Ahoskie Police Detective Sgt. Stephen White, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at 702 East Stokes Street, Ahoskie. Using that warrant, officers seized several items of drug paraphernalia, over three ounces of marijuana and an unspecified amount of United States currency.

“This investigation was a joint effort with Ahoskie PD and Bertie County Sheriff’s Office in an effort to aggressively enforce North Carolina Controlled Substance laws,” White said. “We also need to thank the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina Probation and Parole for their assistance in the execution of the search warrant.”

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh also offered his praise.

“All of the officers in this case conducted themselves in a professional manner and were able to take drugs off our streets,” Fitzhugh stated.
