AHOSKIE – This one was in doubt for about one quarter.

Lawrence led by two heading into the second period, but outscored the home-standing Rams 25-6 in the second period as they rolled to a 65-38 Tarheel Independent Conference victory in the season finale for both clubs.

Chase Stevens paced the win for Lawrence with 19 points while Trace Larabee kicked in 16 and Shabazz Atkins added 14 for the Warriors. Braxton Sumner led Ridgecroft with 10 points.

The Warriors built an early 14-6 lead in the first thanks in large part to three-pointers by Stevens and Larabee, but Ridgecroft rallied. The Rams scored the final six points of the quarter – one bucket each by Nathan Pearce, Ethan Phelps and Miles Harrell – to close the gap to 14-12.

Lawrence, however, dominated the second quarter, opening the period on a 6-0 run and closing it on a 10-0 spurt to grab a 39-18 halftime lead.

Larabee started the first run with a bucket that was followed by free throws from Atkins and a hoop by Chad Whitehead. Sumner stopped the spurt with a three-pointer, but Larabee answered on the other end and Atkins added another pair from the free throw line as Lawrence built a 25-15 lead.

After a Michael Byrum free throw, Atkins and Cade Larabee hit successive hoops to give Lawrence a 29-16 edge.

Austin Britton stopped the run with a hoop for the Rams, but it was the last time the team would score in the first half.

C. Larabee hit a pair of free throws that was followed by a Whitehead three-point play and then buckets by Stevens and Whitehead as the Warriors grabbed a 29-18 lead at the intermission.

The third quarter saw the Warriors continue to pull away as Atkins and T. Larabee hit back-to-back buckets followed by a Larabee three-pointer that gave the Warriors a commanding 46-18 lead.

Scott Lowe stopped the onslaught with a hoop for Ridgecroft, Lawrence came back to score four straight thanks to hoops from Stevens and Atkins as they led by 30 (50-20). The Warriors held a 31-point edge after three quarters.

Ridgecroft outscored Lawrence 13-9 in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors secured their third straight win over the Rams this season.

In addition to those in double figures, Lawrence got nine from Whitehead, six from C. Larabee and one from Scott Dunlow. Ridgecroft saw Lowe and Pearce score nine each while Byrum and Phelps each had three.

The win boosted Lawrence to 14-7 overall and 8-2 in the TIC. Ridgecroft fell to 5-5 in the league.
