Joseph Blythe

Joseph Lewis Blythe, 73, died Thursday, February 4, 2010 at his home in Woodland. He had been a devoted husband to his wife of 39 years, Garnet Askew Blythe who preceded him in death as well as his parents, Linwood and Thelma Blythe.
A native of Northampton County, he was retired as a Textiles Instrumentation Technician with West Point Stevens and was retired from the Army National Guard after 8 years of service. His memberships include the Woodland Volunteer Fire Department of which he was a 20 year veteran, the Woodland Volunteer Rescue Squad, and the Woodland Baptist Church. Also, he was currently serving as a Commissioner in charge of Police for the Town of Woodland.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Blythe and his wife, Connie, of Stantonsburg and Michael Blythe and his wife, Margaret Ann of Rich Square; one brother, James Blythe and his wife, Judy, of Mr. Airy; and one sister, Virginia Chitty of Ahoskie.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Friday, Feb. 12 at 11 a.m. in the Town of Woodland Cemetery with the Rev. Marcus Pond presiding. The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc in Conway, Thursday from 7:to 8:30 p.m. and have requested that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift, please do so to the Woodland Volunteer Fire Department or to the Woodland Volunteer Rescue Squad.
