LASKER – Northeast Academy split a Senior Night double header with Terra Ceia Christian School here Friday night.

The Lady Eagles claimed a 33-20 win over the Knights while the varsity boys of Northeast suffered a 47-22 setback at the hands of Terra Ceia.

The first quarter of the varsity girl’s game got off to a slow start with only six points scored in the opening three minutes. Fortunately for the Lady Eagles, four of those points came from Northeast.

Lacy Pfeiffer scored the first hoop of the night and Ashton Liverman added another hoop after Terra Ceia scored to make it 4-3.

The Lady Eagles extended the lead to 6-2 on a Liverman hoop with 4:53 remaining, but the Lady Knights hit two straight to tie the game at 6-all with 2:19 remaining in the quarter.

Senior Kelly Barnes scored the final bucket of the first period, giving Northeast an 8-6 lead.

Jennifer Sykes, another senior, helped the Lady Eagles push ahead 10-7 following a four-minute dry spell in the second period.

The two teams then exchanged missed free throw attempts for the next two minutes with the clubs combining to make one two of 10 attempts from the line, leaving the Eagles up by three.

Terra Ceia scored to cut the lead to 11-10 at the intermission.

As the second half started, Liverman and Sykes hit back-to-back buckets and then Sykes added a free throw that gave Northeast a 16-10 lead.

The Lady Knights again rallied, closing to within 16-13 before an Ivey Little hoop pushed it back to five with just over a minute to play in the third quarter.

Terra Ceia, however, found the basket again to close out the period trailing 18-15.

The Lady Eagles got quick buckets from Sykes and Liverman to push their lead to seven (22-15) with just under six minutes to play.

After a TCCS bucket, Northeast scored eight straight to put the game out of reach.

Liverman started the spurt and was followed by a hoop each from Barnes and Little. Two shots from the charity stripe by Little sealed the fate of the Knights as she gave Northeast a 20-17 lead with 1:23 to play.

Recognized during Senior Night activities were Barnes, Pfeiffer and Sykes.

In the varsity boy’s contest, scoring was scarce in the first quarter with the Knights taking a 4-2 lead after neither team found the bottom of the basket for the first five and a half minutes of play.

Senior Judd Smith had the only hoop for the Eagles in the quarter.

In the second period, Brad Johnson score quickly to tie the game at 4-all. TCCS, however, scored the next four points to push their lead to 8-4.

Northeast rallied thanks to a Cody Fleetwood free throw and a bucket by James Pope, to tie the game at eight-all.

The Knights scored the final four points of the quarter to lead 12-8 at the intermission.

The third quarter saw Terra Ceia open up their lead as they scored nine of the first 12 points stopped only by a Logan Wheeler three-pointer, to take a 21-11 lead. The Knights led 23-15 after three quarters.

The fourth quarter didn’t fare any better for the Eagles as they suffered the Tarheel Independent Conference setback.
