AHOSKIE – Three men are behind bars, each facing an array of charges, following two related shootings here late last week.

Jarvis Alvin Holley, 20, of Pinetops Road, Murfreesboro; Rakeem Quonnell Maddrey, 19, of Daughtry Road, Murfreesboro; and Prince Cornell Bowers, 19, of US 258, Como, were charged by the Ahoskie Police.

Each was charged with attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, damage to real property and personal property and violating an Ahoskie ordinance by discharging a firearm inside the town limits.

Holley and Maddrey were each jailed under a $136,000 secured bond. Bowers’ bond was set at $137,000 secured.

All made their first court appearance on Jan. 22.

Ahoskie Police Lt. Detective Jeremy Roberts said the first shooting was reported at 1 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21.

“Our officers responded to a shots fired call on Holloman Avenue,” Roberts said. “When the officers arrived, they spoke with an individual who said he had just pulled into his driveway when a vehicle drove by on Holloman Ave. and fired several shots at his vehicle.”

That victim, who was unharmed, gave Ahoskie Police officers Tyrone Ruffin and Chad Wheeler a description of the suspect vehicle, Roberts said. Additionally, the victim told the officers there were three individuals in the suspect vehicle.

“While the officers were investigating the Holloman Ave. incident, they received another call to respond to a residence on Roberts Street concerning shots fired,” Roberts said. “As they were on their way to answer that call, the officers met a vehicle on Catherine Creek Road that matched the description of the suspect vehicle allegedly involved in the first shooting.”

Roberts said that suspect vehicle was stopped where the officers detained three individuals inside the car for questioning. Roberts added that a weapon was found in the vehicle.

“The officers then went to the residence on Roberts Street and discovered shots had struck that home,” Roberts said. “After speaking with the individuals at that residence and collecting evidence at the scene, the officers determined that the two shootings were connected and that the suspects they had detained for questioning following the traffic stop were involved in both shootings.”

There were no injuries reported at the Roberts Street shooting.

Lt. Roberts praised the efforts of officers Ruffin and Wheeler.

“Their attention to detail as they were leaving one shooting scene to head to another was critical in making quick arrests in both cases,” he said. “They were able to get three people off the street who apparently have no regard to anyone’s safety.”
