Black History Celebration planned

WINDSOR – The second annual Black History Celebration is planned for Tuesday, February 9.

The event, which will be held at the HTM Convention Center, is sponsored by the Windsor-Bertie County Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re excited to be working on this second annual event,” said Chamber Executive Director Collins Cooper. “This year we’ll be highlighting our military, which we’re excited about.”

This year’s event is “Celebrating African-American Service in the Military” and will feature a variety of speakers who have military connections and backgrounds.

Also, all military in attendance will be given a flag pin to acknowledge their service.

Speakers for the event will include Laurie Anderson, the oldest veteran in Bertie County, as well as Dr. Benjamin Speller of the Hope Foundation. Others include James “Mick” Lee, Director of Youth Enrichment for the U.S. Military Academy, Cynthia Bunch of Bertie County Schools and possibly Bertie High School Principal Calvin Moore.

“We encourage all of our military veterans to come out to the Black History Celebration,” Cooper said. “We think it will be a great evening.”

Tickets for the event are $10 and will go on sale Monday (January 25) at the Chamber office on York Street.

Table sponsorships are available for $1000 while Silver Sponsorships are $300 and Gold Sponsors are $500.
