James N. Earley, 83, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2010, in Chesapeake Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Woodville, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Joseph O. Earley, Sr. and Ivy Harrington Earley and was predeceased by his first wife, Peggy Earley; a brother, Joseph O. Earley, Jr. and two sisters, Christine Pike and Ella Morris.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, retired after 30 years from NARF and worked at Cooke’s Hardware for 22 years.
Jim was a member of Great Bridge United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Administrative Board and was a founding member and three time President of the United Methodist Men.
He spent more than 35 years in Scouting, as a former Scout Master and Scout Coordinator for Troop 48.
An active Ruritan of 46 years perfect attendance, he was a three time President of the Great Bridge Club, Zone Governor and Holland District Treasurer.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Maxine M. Earley; three sons, Rev. Dr. James N. Earley, II and wife, Rev. Phyllis R. Earley, of Arlington, VA, Brantley Allen of Chesapeake, VA and Christopher Earley and wife, Carie, of Huntington Beach, CA; four grandchildren, Alacia, Nathan, Kelsey and Avalon; a sister, Margaret Springfield of Ahoskie, NC as well as several nieces and nephews.
A worship service celebrating his life was conducted at on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Great Bridge United Methodist Church. Rev. Danny Kesner officiated. The interment followed in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
