WINTON – An armed robbery here early Wednesday morning has led to a pair of arrests.

According to a report field by Hertford County Deputy Tom Helms, a call was received Wednesday from a victim who was at his residence. The man said he was in a car with two people when one of them drew a gun and pointed it at his head allowing the other to empty his pockets.

The victim was able to later identify both suspects and warrants were drawn for the arrest of Arthur Melvin Mitchell, 35, and Crystal Lynn Phillips, 23, both of Murfreesboro.

Sheriff’s Investigator Dexter Hayes and Sgt. John Joyner then went to Marion Drive in Murfreesboro to serve the warrants later Wednesday. Phillips reportedly opened the door and was placed under arrest.

Mitchell was later found in the home and was also placed under arrest.

In addition to the charges from the armed robbery, additional drug and weapons charges were filed by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, aid and abet larceny, felony conspiracy and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was placed in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $300,000 secured bond.

Phillips was charged with aid and abet armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny from a person, felony conspiracy and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $75,000 secured bond.

“I appreciate the quick work of Deputy Helms and the follow-up investigation by Det. Hayes and Sgt. Joyner,” said Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan. “We will continue to work diligently to keep our neighborhoods safe from this type of criminal behavior.”
