Doris Howell Umphlett, 75, of Hackley Road, Gates, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
A native of Gates County, she was retired as an administrative assistant with the Gates County Department of Social Services and member of Eure Christian Church and its Women’s Fellowship.
Survivors include her husband, H. Lilton Umphlett, Jr.; two sons, Donnie Umphlett of Corapeake and Kenny Umphlett of Gates; two brothers, Robert Taylor Howell and Lowell Howell, both of Eure; and four grandchildren.
A funeral was held at Friday, Dec. 11 at Eure Christian Church. Revs. Wayne Gardner and Michael Brinkley officiated. Burial followed in the Umphlett Family Cemetery near the home.
The family will friends at the residence.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of one’s choice.
