PLEASANT HILL — Calls from concerned citizens here yielded big results for law enforcement.

According to Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, two Pleasant Hill women are facing drug charges after his officers served a search warrant at their home.

On Friday, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gladys Brody Smith, 66, and her 30-year-old daughter, Angela Jeanette Smith, after deputies found 48 bags of marijuana in the women’s residence located at 100 Brown Street.

Vincent said the search of the home was in response to an investigation prompted by citizens’ calls in reference to drug activity in the area.

After months of investigation, Vincent said deputies were able to serve the warrant and when they arrived the home found seven to nine people at the residence.

After securing the scene, the officers began their search in which they found the 48 bags of marijuana packaged for sale. Vincent said the officers also 1.8 ounces of additional marijuana and drug paraphernalia “throughout the home.”

Both women were charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and two counts of possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver schedule IV (marijuana). They were taken to the Northampton County Jail and placed on a $10,000 secured bond each.

Northampton County Sheriff’s Sgt. Lynette Clements said Angela Smith has a previous drug arrest. According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Angela Smith was charged with possession of a controlled substance in 2006.

Clements added the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety’s Division of Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE) has been contacted in regards to the alcohol and tobacco products found at the residence.

Vincent said more arrests could be pending.

“I want to commend the citizens for their input and wanting to eliminate this kind of activity in their community,” said Vincent.

He also commended the 12 officers involved with the search of the home and investigation of the case.
