AHOSKIE — A local organization and a local church helped to make the holiday special for area families.

Last week, Youth Expressions, Inc. along with Calvary Missionary Baptist Church put the “giving” in Thanksgiving by delivering 50 baskets to families in need.

According to Kim Jenkins, Executive Director for Youth Expressions, this is the third year the non-profit has donated Thanksgiving baskets.

“God has truly blessed me and I feel obligated to give back to the community,” said Jenkins about the organization’s good deed.

Within the baskets, the recipients found food items for a Thanksgiving meal. Cornbread, vegetables, dessert, cranberry sauce, right down to the traditional Thanksgiving bird—turkey—were provided.

The meals were delivered to needy families around Hertford County.

“We hope we can do this every year,” said Jenkins.

She added the organization, partnering with Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, was still able to pull the funding together for the meals despite losing their mental health sponsor, We Are All Connected.

She added the organization is looking forward to their annual Christmas toy drive, which is known to collect up to 300 toys for children.

Youth Expressions, Inc. is a non-profit organization that assists at-risk youth 9-17 by providing counseling, support and guidance.
