Pfeiffer paces Northeast

AHOSKIE – Lacy Pfeiffer poured in 17 points and led Northeast Academy to a fifth-place finish in the Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship Tournament Thursday night.

The senior led all scorers for the Lady Eagles as Northeast defeated Bethel Christian Academy 43-29.

The two teams started in a close battle with the score deadlocked at nine-all after one period of play.

Amanda Outlaw had the first hoop for Bethel, but Jennifer Sykes responded for Northeast. Elizabeth Farmer and Pfeiffer then exchanged hoops as the score reached a 4-all tie midway through the quarter.

Kelsey Conner gave Bethel a brief lead, but Ashton Liverman responded with a bucket and a free throw and Taylor Cocke added a hoop to make it 9-6 in favor of Northeast.

Bethel got a free throw from Charity Dunlow and a hoop by Conner to deadlock the score at 9-all.

Northeast surged ahead early in the second quarter when Sykes and Liverman had back-to-back hoops to lead 13-9. After a Farmer bucket, Sykes scored two straight buckets to push the lead to 17-11. Bethel closed to within three (17-14) at the intermission.

Northeast pushed the lead to six to 10 points throughout most of the third quarter and closed out the game with a 5-2 run to secure the victory.

In addition to Pfeiffer’s 17 points, the Lady Eagles got 13 from Sykes and nine from Cocke. Farmer led Bethel Christian with 11 points while Conner added nine.
