We appreciate your help

As one of two sponsors for the Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship Tournament, we are keenly aware of how much community support means to the success of the tournament and the scholarships awarded at the event.

For the last three years, the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald and United Country Joe Murray Realty have co-sponsored the athletic event that provides a great basketball tournament and the opportunity to win scholarships.

To date, almost a dozen students have received financial help to attend the college of their choice. They have come from several local schools and have been student-athletes who have represented their school and the tournament admirably.

Each year we have members of the Roanoke-Chowan community who help provide those scholarships by contributing to the Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship fund that has been set up through Ridgecroft School.

Thanks to those donations, students from Bethel Christian Academy, Lawrence Academy, Ridgecroft School, Northeast Academy, Oakwood School and Pungo Christian Academy will have the opportunity to receive a $1,000 or $500 scholarship at the tournament.

We appreciate all those who have given in the past and all those who work hard to make it possible.

This year we are once again making the rounds in the Roanoke-Chowan community seeking support to provide those scholarships. Anyone who is interested in helping should contact Joe Murray (332-2867), Thadd White (332-7211) or Joyce Brantley (209-3614). Scholarship donations can also be sent to: Lt. Nick Brantley Scholarship, c/o Ridgecroft School, P.O. Box 1008, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

We appreciate everyone who works hard and provides funding to honor not only these students but the memory of a great man in Lt. Nick Brantley.
