Trio of local schools finish in Top 10

WILSON – A trio of local teams placed in the Top 10 at the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association tennis tournament.

Ridgecroft School was the highest finisher, earning sixth place with 10 points during the tournament. Northeast Academy was next with eight points in seventh place. Lawrence Academy finished eighth with six points.

The highest individual honor came from Lawrence’s Bailey Nelson who advanced to the state championship match. Nelson finished second in the number five singles competition to top seeded Megan Gleespen of Greenfield School.

Overall, Statesville Christian School captured the state championship with 28 points. They edged Greenfield School, a team that had 20 points. Next was Wayne Christian School with 17 followed by The Elon School with 15 and Davidson Day School with 13 points.

Following the local trio was Trinity School of Durham and Trinity Academy of Raleigh.
