BLACKSBURG, Va. – Hertford County High School graduate Tydreke Powell played a big part in Thursday night’s University of North Carolina win at Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech was ranked number 14 in the nation heading into the contest. The loss dropped the Hokies out of a tie for first in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They now trail Georgia Tech, Duke and Virginia in the division.

Overall, Powell had two solo tackles, one assist, a tackle for a loss, a sack, a pass breakup and the forced fumble.

Powell was Northeastern Coastal Conference Player of the Year his senior season at HCHS and was named Roanoke-Chowan Male Athlete of the Year.
