AHOSKIE – One person was severely injured in a three-vehicle crash near here Monday afternoon.

North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Ricky West reported that 25-year-old Larry Garner of Murfreesboro suffered severe injuries after the vehicle in which he was a back seat passenger flipped as a result of the crash.

Garner was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville where he is listed in serious condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Shannon Marie Parrish, 18, of Littleton was operating a 1997 Nissan passenger car that was crossing the intersection of NC 11 and Shortcut Road (the infamous “11 and 11”) at which time her vehicle was struck by a 2000 Ford van driven by Audrey Moore, 53, of Ahoskie. Moore was traveling north on NC 11 at the time of the 2:52 p.m. accident.

Moore was injured and transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. Parrish was also taken to R-CH, as were two other passengers in her vehicle – Joshua Hopson, 20, of Roanoke Rapids and Shanrier Parrish, 22, of Murfreesboro.

Trooper West reported that neither Garner nor S. Parrish were wearing seat belts.

Following impact, the Nissan came to rest upside down in the northbound lane of NC 11. Before coming to a rest, the vehicle struck the front left quarter panel of a 2000 Mercury passenger car operated by Robert Elwood Leake, 78, of Ahoskie. Leake, whose car was stopped at the intersection and waiting to cross in a northbound direction, was not injured.

Trooper West said charges are pending.
