Rams roll past Red Barons

GATESVILLE – Ridgecroft School scored an 8-1 win over Gates County High School Tuesday afternoon.

The varsity tennis win helped the Lady Rams improve to 6-2 this season.

Ridgecroft top seed Tayler Smith knocked off Amber Hendrix to lead a sweep of the singles’ contests. She won the matchup 8-4.

Caroline Bowman then continued the winning ways with an 8-0 defeat of Kayleigh Edwards in the battle of second seeds.

Taylor Futrell won in the number three singles battle, defeating Renae Parsain by an 8-3 count while Erin Riddick defeated Allyson Owens 8-4 in the battle of number fours.

In the fifth-seed matchup, Alex Riddick scored an 8-3 win over Denene Hayer while sixth seed Katie Futrell completed the sweep with an 8-3 victory over Alyssa Arnold.

In doubles action, the Lady Rams took the top two seeds. Smith and Bowman combined to beat Hendrix and Evans at number one while Futrell and E. Riddick beat Parsain and Owens at number two.

Gates County’s only win came at the number three doubles where Hayer and Arnold topped A. Riddick and Roxie Daniel.

The win gives the Lady Rams a 6-2 mark heading into Tuesday’s home rematch with the Lady Red Barons.
