AHOSKIE – Drag out and dust off those old boxes full of family photos…we need to borrow those priceless treasures.

David Sullens, publisher of the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald, has announced the printing of a special publication in tribute to Hertford County’s 250th anniversary. The library-quality, hard bound collector’s edition will feature timeless photographs of everyday life in Hertford County plus a brief history of the founding of the county in 1759.

The book will be printed on acid-free archival paper that will last for hundreds of years. The publication date is early December, meaning the books will arrive just in time to make for a perfect Christmas gift.

While this newspaper has an archive of old photographs, the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald is soliciting pictures from current and past residents of Hertford County. Those images will add to the overall historical aspect which this book will capture and preserve for generations to come.

Contributors may mail in photographs with information attached (who, where, when and what is going on in the photo) or bring them by our main office located at the intersection of Main Street and Catherine Creek Road in downtown Ahoskie. Those preferring to mail the photos can do so to: R-C News-Herald, PO Box 1325, Ahoskie, NC, 27910, Attention: Cal Bryant. Be sure to include the caption information of what is in the photo and please include a contact name, return address and telephone number in case more information is needed.

Photos being dropped off at the office also need to have accompanying caption information as well as the owner’s name, address and telephone number.

With your help, this book will be a source of pride for years to come…so get out your old picture albums, choose the

photos you would like to submit and bring them in.

The book will be compiled and edited by the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald staff. Some of the photos submitted for publication may not be included. Use will depend upon quality, available space in the book and duplication of the photos submitted.

Deadline for photo submission is Friday, Oct. 16.

For more information on submitting photographs, contact Cal Bryant at 252-332-7207.
