Northeast Academy tennis has won three of their past four outings to vault their overall season record to 5-2.

After falling to Roanoke Rapids High School 5-4, the Lady Eagles have beaten Lawrence Academy, Faith Christian School and Northampton County High School – East.

Northeast – 9, NCHS-East – 0

Northeast used a solid performance Wednesday to roll past county rival Northampton-East 9-0.

Lady Eagles’ top seed Kelsey Futrell started things off for the Eagles by rolling to an 8-0 win over Michele Perry. Also claiming spotless wins were fifth-seeded Haley Jones (over Brittany Crawford) and number six Ivey Little (over Shaqullia Jacobs).

Three Northeast players also grabbed 8-1 victories. They included second seed Taylor Cocke who defeated Jessica Phipps, third-seed Kalen Rose who topped Brittany Bazemore and fourth-seeded Ashton Liverman, who rolled by Kristen Martin.

In doubles action, Jones and Little grabbed an 8-2 win while the Lady Eagles also won in the second and third seeded doubles action.

Northeast – 7, Lawrence – 2

Northeast Academy claimed a 7-2 win over Lawrence Academy September 13.

In that contest, the Lady Eagles took five matches in the singles competition before winning two of the three doubles contests.

Northeast number two seed Taylor Cocke led the way with a spotless 8-0 win over Hayden Thompson.

Also getting a win was top-seed Kelsey Futrell, who knocked off Hallie Corbett 8-5. Northeast number four Ashton Liverman grabbed an 8-3 win over Sarah Maggison.

In the battle of number five seeds, Haley Jones of Northeast secured an 8-6 win over Bailey Nelson while sixth-seeded Ivey Little topped Laura Bailey 8-4.

Lawrence’s single win came at the number three spot where McCall Nelson defeated Hannah Woodard.

In doubles, Lawrence won the number one matchup while Northeast grabbed victories at number two and three.

Northeast – 8, Faith Christian – 1

Northeast also rolled over Faith Christian School, losing just once in the matchup on Sept. 10.

Kelsey Futrell got things started for the Eagles by winning 6-2, 6-1 at the number one seed. Taylor Cocke followed suit at number two with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Kristian Watson.

At number three, Kalen Rose won 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 over Samantha Gurganus while Ashton Liverman grabbed the win at number four by topping Katie Barnes 6-3 and 6-1.

Haley Jones scored a victory at number five by topping Megan Catt 6-2 and 6-1 and the Lady Eagles completed the singles sweep when Ivey Little knocked off Madison Moore 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.

Northeast won the number one and number two doubles matchups and Faith won number three.

Roanoke Rapids – 5, Northeast – 4

The only loss in the last two weeks for the Lady Eagles came Sept. 9 when Roanoke Rapids won four singles’ matches to secure a 5-4 win.

Northeast got wins by top-seeded Kelsey Futrell (8-3 over Emily Walker) and number two seed Taylor Cocke (8-4 over Jenna Wessner). Roanoke Rapids bounced back to win the third, fourth, fifth and sixth seed matchups.

Northeast got a win at number one doubles from Futrell and Rose as they beat Walker and Wessner 8-5 and also won at number three doubles where Haley Jones and Ivey Little topped Zia Muyengwa and Kim Kinnin 8-4.

Roanoke Rapids won the decider, however, taking the number two doubles match 8-2 with Mia Wessner and Rebecca White edging Cocke and Ashton Liverman.

The Lady Eagles end the two weeks with a 5-2 overall record heading into Wednesday’s rematch with Roanoke Rapids. That contest will be at Emory Park.
