James Hedgepeth

James Pollard Hedgepeth, 86, of US Hwy 13 South, died Sunday, September 20, 2009 in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A native of Hertford County, he was retired from the Norfolk Assembly Plant of Ford Motor Co., he was a funeral assistant with the former Harrell Funeral Home in Gatesville. A member of Cool Spring Baptist Church, he had served as a deacon, treasurer and a member of the cemetery committee. A charter member of the Eure Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Hall Ruritan Club, he was an honorary member of the Gates County Hunt Club and a member of the Gates County Volunteer Rescue Squad,
Survivors include his wife, Sadie Whitley Hedgepeth; a daughter, Sandra H. Pope of Eure; a son, Ricky Hedgepeth of Eure; three sisters, Dorothy Evans of Chesapeake, VA, Margaret Johnson of Eure and Detra Rose of Goldsboro; a brother, Vernon Hedgepeth of Eure; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Cool Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Roger Kiker and the Rev. Joe Wynns. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
