Eagles take straight-set win

LASKER – Northeast Academy claimed a straight-set volleyball win over Community Christian here last week.

The Lady Eagles won 25-19, 25-7 and 25-20 to improve to 6-2 overall.

The contest was not an easy one, however, as the Lady Eagles trailed 18-12 in the third game before Sarah Taylor Best rolled off nine straight serves to bring Northeast back to the win.

Also, Jennifer Sykes served 14 consecutive points in the second game to build on an early lead.

“I’m proud of the girls for shaking off the heart-breaker with Lawrence to win this match,” said Northeast Academy coach Cap Pfeiffer.

Sykes had an outstanding day for the Lady Eagles, recording 17 assists to go with eight tips, six aces, three kills and two digs. Kelly Sykes was also extraordinary, scoring 13 kills and three aces as well as a tip, an assist and a dig.

Lacy Pfeiffer had an excellent day as well with three kills and three assists as well as two tips and two aces.

Brittany Bolton had four digs and two aces to go with one assist while Dayna Barnes had an ace, a tip and a dig. Ashlee Flythe added one ace.

The Lady Eagles will host Ridgecroft School today (Tuesday) at 4 p.m.

JV Action

Northeast Academy’s junior varsity volleyball squad improved to 3-3 overall with a three-set win over Community Christian.

The Lady Eagles won 25-15, 24-26 and 15-11.

Lindsey Bryant paced Northeast with seven aces while Taylor King added two. Chelsea Rose and Ashlee Flythe had one kill each.
