AHOSKIE – A lone suspect is being sought by the Ahoskie Police Department for an armed robbery that occurred Monday night.

Shortly after 9 p.m., an individual walked inside Pizza Hut, located on Peacock Street, where, after displaying a handgun, robbed the restaurant of an undisclosed amount of cash.

“The suspect approached the counter at which time he asked the manager to open the cash register,” Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said. “Once the register was opened, the suspect reached in and took the money.”

Chief Fitzhugh said there were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the heist. None of the employees were injured.

The suspect is described as a black male, standing 5’-10” and of medium build. He was wearing a blue pullover sweatshirt, with Hertford County Football and the Bears logo, a white t-shirt underneath, a blue ball cap and blue jeans with a red dragon on the back pockets. The suspect attempted to hide his identity by wearing a blue bandanna across his face.

The alleged robber left the restaurant on foot in an unknown direction of travel.

“My officers were on the scene within minutes after the call, but no one fitting the suspect’s description was seen in the general area near Pizza Hut,” Fitzhugh said.

The Chief added that Pizza Hut employees did note a person matching the suspect’s description was noticed outside the restaurant. Another report placed a person similar in description in the area of Central Ford approximately 40 minutes prior to the robbery.

“My advice to businesses is that if they see someone lurking outside the store for a period of time, especially if that person is standing alone, to take a precautionary stance and call us. Let us make the determination is the person in question is up to no good or not,” Fitzhugh noted.

Anyone with information concerning the robbery are urged to contact APD Lt. Detective Jeremy Roberts at 332-5011. All information is kept confidential.
