AHOSKIE – Two Ahoskie women were arrested Saturday in a stabbing incident that sent two others to the hospital, including a pregnant woman.

According to Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh, Zakilyn L. Bunch, 24, of 117 Roger Lane and 45-year-old Doris Bunch of 203 Maple Street were charged after several APD officers responded to a call reporting a fight in the 900 block of East First Street.

Z. Bunch was arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of felony aggravated assault. She was placed under a $10,000 secured bond.

D. Bunch was arrested three hours later and charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $2,000 secured.

The stab wounds received by the victims were not considered as life-threatening and there was no report of injury to the unborn child.

APD Officer Ty Metzler was the first to respond to the call. According to Chief Fitzhugh, Metzler noted a large crowd had gathered. From that crowd emerged the pregnant women who reported to Metzler that she had been stabbed. Meanwhile, another person, a male with blood on his face, exited an East First Street residence and approached Metzler, also advising that he had been stabbed.

Hertford County EMS was summoned and both stabbing victims were transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. The victims were able to identify their alleged attackers, information that was used to arrest the two suspects.

“The incident allegedly began between the female victim and Zakilyn Bunch and Doris Bunch,” Chief Fitzhugh said. “At some point the male victim apparently intervened at which time he was allegedly stabbed.”
