AHOSKIE – Good soccer is on tap this weekend.

Ridgecroft School will hold its fourth annual Ridgecroft School Soccer Invitational at Mike Bryant Field on the school’s campus Friday and Saturday.

“This is something we’ve tried to build on the last several years,” said Rams’ coach Aron Martin. “This year will see us host one of the most talented fields yet.”

The field consist of the host Rams, Trinity School of Durham, Cape Fear Christian Academy and Statesville Christian.

“Trinity is a former state champion and Statesville Christian is the school that eliminated us after our good run two years ago,” Martin said. “They provide us with a good team from the center and western part of the state.

“Rounding out the field is Cape Fear, who is another quality opponent,” he said.

The contests are slated to begin at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon when the host Ridgecroft School team meets Cape Fear Christian Academy. That will be followed by a 5:30 p.m. contest in which Trinity School will square off with Statesville Christian School.

On Saturday the games will start at 10 a.m. with Statesville Christian meeting Cape Fear.

The final matchup of the round-robin even will come at 12 noon on Saturday when the Rams meet Trinity.

“There should be some exciting matches,” Martin said. “The level of competition is going to be excellent. As we raise our expectations, we have to raise the level of competition.”

Admission for the event is $5 for adults and $4 for students per day.
