AULANDER – An Edgecombe County man, suspected of larceny from an Ahoskie business, was arrested here Monday afternoon following a vehicle chase.

Terry Cobb, 39, of 505 Geddie Ave. in Princeville allegedly stole two laptop computers and an I-Pod from a business in Ahoskie Commons Shopping Center. He attempted to elude arrest by speeding away from the Ahoskie town limits.

“We received the call about the larceny from the place of business and then received another call from a motorist who reported a vehicle driving erratically on NC 42 West,” Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh said. “The vehicle description given by the motorist matched the one given by the business owner.”

That vehicle, a purple Plymouth passenger car, was spotted by a trio of APD officers answering the call – Lt. Jeremy Roberts and Patrol Officers Michael Fedock and Michael Kellett.

They pursued the suspect vehicle down NC 42 West and then followed the car as it turned onto NC 11 South.

Once the suspect vehicle reached the NC 305 intersection, it turned right towards Aulander. From there the vehicle drove into the downtown business district and made a circle around the Town Hall area before heading back on NC 305 east.

Lt. Roberts said from that point the vehicle turned onto a side street, eventually making its way towards a dead end area near Golden Peanut Company. Now with nowhere to go, Lt. Roberts said the driver made an attempt to flee on foot, but Roberts was able to track down the suspect in a wooded area and made the arrest.

Cobb was charged with felony larceny, felony speed to elude arrest, failure to stop for a blue light and siren, careless and reckless driving, expired inspection sticker, driving with a revoked license and resist, delay and obstruct. Bond had not been set by News-Herald press time on Monday night.

At some point during the chase, Cobb’s vehicle and one of the APD units collided. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating that collision.
