MERRY HILL – When their teams take the field this year, they’ll try to beat each other.

But, this summer, they’ll work together to teach the fundamentals of baseball to the youngsters of the Roanoke-Chowan region.

Lawrence Academy Baseball Coach Robert Kravitz and Ridgecroft School Baseball Coach Brandon Hodges have announced the formation of the “Back to School Bash” baseball camp which will be held for the first time in August of this year.

The first annual camp is scheduled to take place from 9 a.m. until 12 noon on August 10-12 and will be held at the Lawrence Academy baseball complex.

The camp is open to all those age five to 15.

“We’ll be teaching the fundamentals of the game,” Kravitz said. “There will be something for each age level to learn.”

Kravitz and Hodges will teach base running, hitting, defense, pitching and other areas of the game.

“We will provide instruction for every part of the game of baseball,” Hodges said. “Anyone who wants to learn more about the game, we hope will come out.”

The camp registration fee is $45 in advance and $55 the first day it begins. Those wishing to enroll should call Kravitz (724-1614) or Hodges (209-6841).

About Robert Kravitz

Robert Kravitz is the Head Baseball Coach at Lawrence Academy in Merry Hill where he has won two North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A championships and has played in the championship series five times.

He played baseball at Bertie High School and continued his playing career at Elizabeth City State University.

He began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Bertie High under Randy Whitaker and has also coached with the American Legion.

About Brandon Hodges

Brandon Hodges is the Head Baseball Coach at Ridgecroft School, having been named to that post this off-season. He has coached at Pitt Community College and South Central High School. He was also the Head Baseball Coach at Hertford County High School for one season in which the Bears finished second in the Northeastern Coastal Conference.

Hodges played baseball at HCHS and has coached baseball at the recreation, American Legion, high school and college levels for more than a dozen seasons.
