AHOSKIE – Who is the best dancer in Hertford County?

That answer will be revealed July 12.

A unique event is scheduled for 3 p.m. on that Sunday at the Ahoskie Inn where the 4H Club of Davis Kids College will sponsor “Dancing with the Stars.” Proceeds will benefit the 4H Club.

“If you are looking for a fun-filled, family oriented event, this is it,” said Essie Davis, owner of Davis Kids College. “We were looking for a fun way to raise funds to aid our 4H Club and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ was born.”

Davis said she has lined-up an array of local “stars” for the dance floor. They include:

Roanoke-Chowan Hospital President Sue Lassiter dancing with Ahoskie attorney Ernie Carter;

Hertford County DSS Supervisor Glenda Simmons partnering with Kit Liverman;

Hertford County Probation Officer Rochelle Simmons will pair on the dance floor with her husband, Tony Simmons;

Lakeisha Askew, enrolled in graduate school at NC A&T, will dance with Victor Johnson;

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan and his wife, Gail, will attempt to impress the crowd with their dance moves;

Linda Outlaw, a retired medical office technician, will dance with Ervin Simons;

Bill Britt, owner of Britt Trucking, will “shake a leg” with Marion Slade as his partner;

Ahoskie Mayor Linda Blackburn and Ercell Bazemore will form a dancing duo;

Juan Vaughan II, with the SACS program at Roanoke-Chowan Community College, will partner with Stephanie Goddard; and

Local attorney Sonya W. Mastrodonato will team-up with her nephew, Deonta’ Whitaker.

Following intermission, Davis and her brother, Curtis Whitaker, will hit the dance floor.

“We think the public will be amazed by the dancing and the dancing styles of these individuals, people you see almost daily and had no idea they could dance,” Davis noted.

Judging will be by monetary vote. Those in attendance can pay $1 (and up) to cast a vote after each “star” has performed.

General admission to the event is $5 per person.
