The summer heat has already risen to levels that make being outside uncomfortable to say the very least. Temperatures in the region have soared past the 90-degree mark on multiple occasions already.

Sometimes because we get used to the heat gradually, we sometimes forget how hot it really is. We’re able to take care of ourselves for the most part – drink water when we get thirsty, go in when we’re overheated and provide for our own food needs.

Our pets, however, aren’t as fortunate many times. For the most part, they depend on us to take care of them. When it is hot, we sometimes forget they don’t have the ability to get their own water or let themselves back in the house.

It’s always nice for dogs and cats to have the opportunity to play outside. Some of them live outdoors on a fulltime basis. It is important, however, that we provide water for our pets as well as ample shade.

Don’t take them along with you when you’re going to the grocery store or anywhere else that will require you to be away from the vehicle for a long period of time. Never leave them in a hot car or truck, even with the windows down, for more than a few minutes.

When you took the pet into your possession, you made a commitment to take care of them. Now is a time when that is an extremely important vow.

Do what you can to make sure your pets are comfortable and well taken care of. Don’t sacrifice them to the heat.
