Six break-ins have occurred in homes in northern Bertie County over the past several weeks.

Detective Sgt. Ed Pittman of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office said the department is investigating the break-ins which have occurred in the communities of Center Grove, Earlys Station and Hexlena.

“There have been six day-time break-ins in the northern area of the county,” Det. Sgt. Pittman said. “The break-ins have occurred in the morning hours and they have taken a variety of items.”

Thus far the thieves have taken guns, electronic equipment and jewelry.

In connection with the break-ins, the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a white passenger vehicle that was spotted in the area of the most recent break-in on Tuesday.

“So far, all we can say is that the vehicle is suspicious,” Det. Sgt. Pittman said. “We can’t say for sure it is tied to the break-ins or anything.”

Those in the area of the break-ins are being cautioned to keep on the lookout and be aware of what is going on around them.

“If you see anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to call the sheriff’s office,” Det. Sgt. Pittman said. “Also, if anyone has any information about the break-ins that have occurred, we need them to call as well.”

Information can be called in to the sheriff’s office at 794-5330.
