Mr. John Douglas “Doug” Phelps, age 57, a resident of 720 Mill Road, Washington, died accidentally on Sunday, June 21, 2009.
Memorial services, conducted by Pastor Tad Tankard, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 26 at Harvest Church, Washington.
Mr. Phelps was born in Hertford County on Sept. 6, 1951 to the late John Ryland Phelps and Iona Casper Phelps who survives. On Dec. 3, 1980, he married Tina Lynn Revette who survives.
He was a 1968 graduate of Ahoskie High School; received an associate’s degree in drafting and a diploma in the Diesel Maintenance Program at Roanoke-Chowan Community College and also attended Appalachian State University.
He served in the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Phelps was a member of the Old Ford Church of Christ in Washington.
He was employed as a District Manager for Tiger Cat Logging Equipment.
Survivors include his wife, Tina Revette Phelps of the home; two sons, Jeffrey Phelps of the home and Jacob Phelps of Nampa, ID; a daughter, Holly Phelps of Washington; his mother, Iona Casper Phelps of Ahoskie; and two grandchildren, Braxton Douglas and Jared Dean.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 25 at the Old Ford Church of Christ Family Life Center and other times at the home, 720 Mill Road, Washington.
