WINDSOR – Bertie High School standout Christie Brown is heading to Pitt County.

The recent graduate of BHS has signed to play softball at Pitt Community College in Greenville after four standout years with the Lady Falcons.

“I was excited to have the opportunity to play softball at the next level,” Brown said.

Brown earned a half scholarship for next season and then will have a full ride her sophomore season.

“I am very excited about being a Bulldog,” she said.

Brown will have the opportunity to play second base, shortstop or in the outfield. During four standout seasons with the Lady Falcons, she has played shortstop, catcher and second base.

As she prepares for her future with Pitt Community, Brown said she learned a lot during her prep playing days that will benefit her.

“Coach (Jackie) Copeland has taught me a lot about softball and more so about attitudes toward the game,” she said. “I will take everything I’ve learned from her to the college level.”

During her senior season, Brown was honored as All-Northeastern Coastal Conference – a distinction she earned during all four years of her career.

“I’m so excited for Christie,” said Copeland. “After the injury she suffered during her junior year, I was concerned, but she has bounced back from it and done what she needed to and earned this opportunity.

“I wanted her to have the opportunity to fulfill her dream, which was playing at the collegiate level,” Copeland added. “I think she’ll have two great seasons at Pitt and then, hopefully, have another opportunity after she leaves there.”

This marks the second consecutive year the Lady Falcons have had a players sign a scholarship to play collegiate softball.
