WINDSOR – Do you know an outstanding citizen of Bertie County?

If you do, the Windsor-Bertie County Chamber of Commerce is seeking your input.

The Chamber is currently seeking nominations for the “Outstanding Citizen Award” which will be presented at the organization’s Annual Membership Meeting on Thursday, July 16.

“The purpose of this award is to recognize the effort and interest of an individual in our county who has gone beyond the call of normal day-to-day activities to serve others and to make Bertie County a better place to live,” said Windsor-Bertie County Chamber Executive Director Collins Cooper.

Requirements for nomination include:

the nominee must be a resident of Bertie County;

the person must be 16 years of age when nominated;

nomination must be made by a resident of Bertie County; and

the closing date for nominations is July 3, 2009.

Nomination forms seek information such as the nominee’s name, address and the reason they are nominated.

The forms are available from the Windsor-Bertie County Chamber of Commerce and were mailed with the monthly Chamber newsletter. Forms can be picked up at the office on York Street.

Several other events are scheduled by the Chamber or its members in the coming months.

The first event chronologically will be a blood drive which will take place from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16 at Askewville Baptist Church. The event will be held in the fellowship hall of the church which is located at 110 East Askewville Street.

A summer kick-off with a wine tasting has been scheduled to benefit the Historic Hope Plantation. That event is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday, June 18 and will take place at the Inn at Gray’s Landing on South King Street.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Historic Hope Plantation.

The inaugural End of Spring Arts and Crafts Show has been scheduled for 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at the Chamber office. It will be part of the normal Farmer’s Market which is held at 102 North York Street.

Also on tap is the annual Windsor Independence Day Celebration which is scheduled each year on July 3. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and will be held at the Roanoke-Cashie River Center.

The evening will feature music, food and fireworks and is sponsored by the Chamber, the town of Windsor and the Roanoke-Cashie River Center.
