If you’ve never had an opportunity to enjoy the music of a military band, you’ve missed one of life’s great pleasures.

And if you have had that opportunity, likely you would go out of your way to avail yourself of another.

Such an opportunity is about to present itself. We hope you will take advantage of it.

In Murfreesboro on June 11 – three days before Flag Day – the U.S. Navy Fleet Jazz Ensemble will perform on the lawn of the Roberts-Vaughan Village Center, 116 E. Main St.

Admission is free.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or a picnic blanket.

The concert, which is sponsored by the Town of Murfreesboro and Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m. It is the first of a series of Summer Sounds concerts to be staged in Murfreesboro “every other Thursday night.”

The Fleet Jazz Ensemble, led by Chief Musician Roy Brown, is an 18-member group performing many diverse styles, ranging from the timeless classics of big band swing to Count Basie and Duke Ellington to the exciting contemporary jazz literature of Bob Nintzer and Matt Catingub.
