Because you live where you live, you have opportunities other people who live in other places do not have. If you fail to take advantage of that, you are the poorer for it.

That is true for many reasons, but an excellent example is the many, many opportunities for entertainment and enrichment offered by Chowan University in Murfreesboro.

In April alone, the opportunities are varied and many. For instance:

“The Murder Room,” Jack Sharkey’s hilarious whodunit, will be performed in the Turner Auditorium on the Chowan campus Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 17-19, with performances at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.

On April 7 at 7:30 p.m., the Meherrin Chamber Orchestra will present a concert in Daniel Recital Hall. The concert will feature a program of early and modern music, including two premier performances by Dr. Charles J. Hulin IV, assistant professor of music at Chowan.

Supported by the Meherrin Chamber Society, the Meherrin Chamber Orchestra gives two major performances per year and provides orchestral support for the Chowan Masterworks Program.

The Meherrin Chamber Orchestra and the Masterworks Program are both avenues through which the Department of Music provides the university community and the public with performance and study opportunities as well as an opportunity to hear and enjoy a variety of high quality musical events.

On April 27, the Masterworks Chorus and Orchestra will perform Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, Op. 80 at 8 p.m. in Turner Auditorium.

You should avail yourself of these opportunities. You’ll be glad you did.
