COFIELD – A third member of a quartet of men suspected in last Saturday morning’s shooting into an occupied business has been arrested.

Derek Antonio Jordan, 23, of Hertford Street in Cofield was arrested Monday evening and charged not only in the shooting, but also with multiple drug charges.

Joyner was being sought by the Ahoskie Police Department in connection with an incident last Saturday morning. Law enforcement officers have now arrested three of four men they believe fired shots into BJ’s Sports Bar & Grill on Main Street in Ahoskie.

According to Lt. Jeremy Roberts of the APD, shots were fired into the establishment shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday. Officers arrived, received information and put out a report seeking a gray Cadillac.

Hertford County Sheriff’s Deputy M. Beard was behind a vehicle matching the description on the Ahoskie-Cofield Road and performed a traffic stop. After he took the license from the driver, the driver fled. The car wrecked a mile later and four men escaped on foot.

Deputy Beard caught one man – Alex Roshjuan Beverly, 19, of Cofield – and the driver – Pierre Deshawn Weaver, 18, of Cofield – was later arrested. That left police seeking Joyner and another Cofield man, Raleigh Parker.

Both men were charged with firing a weapon into an occupied building, going armed to the terror of the public and discharging a firearm in the corporate limits of Ahoskie. Beverly was placed under an $85,000 cash bond and Weaver under a $140,000 cash bond. Both were placed in the Hertford County Detention Center.

On Monday evening, Lt. Roberts and Hertford County Deputy Scott Cofield went to Jordan’s residence to serve him with warrants in the case.

“When they arrived, they found marijuana in plain view,” said Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan. “That led to him being charged with the drug charges.”

Jordan was charged with firing a weapon into an occupied building, going armed to the terror of the public and discharging a firearm in the corporate limits of Ahoskie by the Ahoskie Police Department and placed under a $121,000 cash bond.

In addition, he was charged by the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office with felony manufacturing marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed under a $25,000 secured bond for those charges.

“I am glad we were able to help the Ahoskie Police Department with the warrants and I’m happy that the officers were paying attention and saw the marijuana as well,” Sheriff Vaughan said. “It’s always good when we work together.”
