Falcons top Plymouth

PLYMOUTH – Bertie High School claimed their second win of the season here last week.

The Falcons knocked off Plymouth High School 8-2 to move to 2-1 during the early part of the season.

Bertie jumped out to the lead early, scoring three runs in the top of the first frame.

Dakota Young doubled for Bertie and then Kyle Hughes reached on a walk before Zeek Williams delivered a two-out, two-RBI single that plated both Young and Hughes. Williams came around to score when Joseph Eure laced a single to left as the Falcons jumped out on top 3-0.

Bertie added one run in the third frame and another in the fifth before putting three marks across in the sixth. The Vikings scored both of their runs in the fifth frame.

Williams led the Falcons with a 3-for-4 day at the plate that included two runs scored and five RBI while Bo Ledford added a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a single RBI.

Simon Hoggard was 1-for-3 during the afternoon with a run scored, and an RBI while Young was 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Eure added a hit and an RBI while Cody White and David Brown had one hit each.

Ledford picked up the pitching victory by going four and two-thirds of an inning. He allowed just two hits and five walks while striking out five. Young pitched the final two and one-third innings. He allowed two hits and two runs. He walked three and struck out four.

The Falcons will travel to First Flight today (Tuesday) in the Northeastern Coastal Conference opener for both schools.
