AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School’s varsity soccer team claimed victory in their season opener.

The Lady Rams defeated county rival Hertford County High School 11-0 in the first game of the year.

“We lost our form at times, but for our first match, I was pleased overall,” said fourth-year Rams’ skipper Aron Martin. “The girls worked hard. They battled hard.”

Miller Bryant and Tori Sexton paced Ridgecroft during the afternoon. Each of the strikers had four goals and one assist for the afternoon.

Ashley Benion chipped in on goal and one assist for the Rams while sweeper Bardin Murray had one goal. Nicole El’Khoury added a score as well.

The win boosted the Rams to 1-0 for the season. Their contest Friday was cancelled due to inclement weather. They will be back on the field Tuesday when they host Halifax Academy at 4 p.m.
