MURFREESBORO — A quick response from local law enforcement aided in the arrest of four people suspected to be involved in an armed robbery here.

According to Murfreesboro Chief Darrell Rowe, on Monday at approximately 10:04 p.m. Officer Chris Owens with the Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) was flagged down by a citizen.

Rowe said the citizen informed Owens a friend of hers had just been robbed at the Murfreesboro Inn on Main Street.

Upon responding to the Murfreesboro Inn, Owens learned victim had been approached by a small green passenger car occupied by four people, three of which exited the vehicle and approached the victim.

Rowe said two of the suspects drew weapons and $85 in cash was taken from the victim.

While Owens put out the information on the radio, his fellow MPD Officer William Barmer spotted the vehicle in the University Drive and High Street area.

“Officer Barmer initiated a felony vehicle stop,” said Rowe.

Assisting Barmer in the stop was Chowan University Police Chief Derek Burke as well as Hertford County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Johnny Joyner and Deputy Tom Helms.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded two hand guns and the cash allegedly taken from the victim.

“One weapon that was found was (reported) stolen from Winton,” said Rowe.

The suspects were identified as: Frederica Deloatch, 22, of Potecasi; Dadrae Gaskins, 17, of Murfreesboro; Joey Miles, 22, of Potecasi; and Don Long II, 21, of Potecasi.

Rowe said all four suspects were taken into custody and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, felony larceny and felony conspiracy.

The suspects were placed in the Hertford County Jail on a $155,000 secured bond each.

Rowe commended his officers along with the officers from the other respective law enforcement agencies involved in the arrests.

“The officers did a fantastic job in that, firstly, no one was injured,” said Rowe.

He added praise for the officers’ swift response as it took only six minutes from the time Owens dispatched the information and Barmer sighting the suspects’ vehicle.

Rowe thanked Burke and Hertford County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.
