MURFREESBORO — Hollywood is coming to Murfreesboro. The annual banquet of the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce is set for March 10 at John’s Seafood & Steaks. There, the featured speaker and special guest will be famed Hollywood producer Beth Poulson. Chamber President Dell Aycock said the event will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction with dinner to follow at 7 p.m. Polson, a Gates County native, owns her own movie production company. Tickets to the Murfreesboro event can be purchased at the chamber office or by calling the chamber at 398-4886. Tickets are $20. Polson earned her undergraduate degree in English from Old Dominion University before joining The Virginian Pilot in Norfolk where her first job was writing obituaries. While at the Norfolk newspaper, she earned awards for column writing and for investigative reporting. She left the Pilot to join NBC News, producing such Emmy-winning shows as NBC Magazine with David Brinkley and The Barbara Walters Specials. In 1982, Polson established, her own production company, The Polson Company. With her stated goal being bringing quality entertainment to television, Polson has since produced films that include Not My Kid, Go Toward the Light, The Christmas Box and The Last Dance which starred Maureen O’Hara, Eric Stoltz, Deirdre Quinn, and Paul Johansson as well as Miss Lettie and Me with Mary Tyler Moore. Polson’s films have been characterized as “always very warm, intelligent and honest.” As is tradition at the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce banquet, several individuals will be honored for their community service. Featured will be an award from the Chamber; the Sammy Doughtie Memorial Award, as presented by WDLZ-FM, and the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald Front Page Award.
