AHOSKIE — A two-vehicle crash near here fortunately resulted in no injuries.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper M.T. Bryan with Troop A District II, the crash occurred on Jernigan Swamp Road at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Sunday.

The accident occurred when a 1992 Chevy Camaro, operated by James Roel, 16 of Ahoskie, allegedly took a curve too fast.

Bryan said the Camaro, which was heading south on Jernigan Swamp Road, ran off the right side of the road. When Roel tried to bring the vehicle back onto the road, he lost control.

Bryan said this sent the vehicle into the northbound lane, fishtailing.

The Camaro’s back left quarter panel then collided with the left corner of a newer model Jeep Cherokee traveling north and driven by James Doughtie, 71, of Ahoskie.

Bryan said there was a fuel leak at the scene and the Camaro caught on fire. There were no injuries reported.

Roel was cited for exceeding a safe speed for a curve and left of center.
