AHOSKIE – A single point in 16 minutes is not enough to win.

Hertford County High School’s Lady Bears found that out the hard way Friday.

A day after knocking off Currituck to improve to 3-3 in the Northeastern Coastal Conference, HCHS got one point in the second half Friday as Edenton pulled away to a comfortable 46-21 victory.

Hertford County was as close as two (12-10) late in the first quarter, but Edenton scored the final bucket and two free throws of the period to take a 16-10 advantage into the second quarter.

After Tierra Wilder scored for Edenton, Briante Bond answered for the Lady Bears to keep the deficit at six. It was as close as five moments later when, after a Gerrisha Moore hoop for the Aces, T’Kiyah Williams hit from three-point territory to make it 20-15.

Moore responded with a free throw for Edenton and then Williams scored again to get the Lady Bears within four (21-17). Unfortunately for the home team, that was as close as the game would get.

Edenton scored eight of the next 11 points to take a 29-20 lead into the intermission.

Hertford County’s final score from the floor came with 40 seconds to play in the second quarter when Danielle Futrell found the bottom of the net.

In the third quarter, the Lady Bears got a single free throw from Futrell at the 2:23 mark. That was their only score of the second half.

Edenton was led by Moore, who scored 15 points while Tamisha Riddick added 12 and Wilder had 11.

The Lady Bears got five points from Williams and four each from Bond and Jalissa Chinn.

Hertford County dropped to 3-4 in the Northeastern Coastal Conference with the loss and 6-10 overall. They will be at First Flight tonight (Tuesday).
