MURFREESBORO — One man was injured and another arrested after a stabbing here.

According to Murfreesboro Police Chief Darrell Rowe, his department received a call on Monday at approximately 1:27 a.m. in reference to a stabbing at 628 South Drive.

“Once officers arrived they found a victim covered in blood on his left side,” said Rowe. “The victim had been stabbed four to five times in the back.”

Rowe said witnesses at the scene directed Officers William Barmer and Chris Owens to the suspect.

The officers approached the suspect, Lavaris D. Jones, at which time they found Jones still holding the alleged weapon.

Barmer and Owens demanded the suspect to drop the weapon. Jones complied and he was then taken into custody by the officers.

Rowe said the victim was transported to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. The victim’s condition is unknown at this time.

Jones, 25, of 628 South Drive, was charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of assault with the intent to kill/inflicting serious injury. Both charges are felonies.

Jones was placed in the Hertford County Jail under a $200,000 secured bond.

Rowe praised the officers for their diligent and quick action as well as the safe manner in which they conducted themselves.
