JACKSON — Their faces may be known throughout the Northampton County law enforcement community, but now Tony and Brenda Burnette will be known in another capacity.

The two law enforcement officers just took on a new venture in the form of a restaurant bearing the couple’s surname.

Burnette’s Diner was officially opened recently with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Mr. Burnette is a military and law enforcement veteran, serving in the military for 15 years and law enforcement for 17 years. He currently works at the Lowe’s Distribution Center near Garysburg as an Assistant Operating Manager and as a Sergeant for the Jackson Police Department.

Brenda Burnette works at the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office as a Detective Lieutenant.

For Tony Burnette, the diner has been seven years in the making.

“It’s something I always wanted to do,” he said. “My first job was in a restaurant and I saw a need here (in Jackson).”

The Burnette’s are leasing to own the diner, located at 127 W. Jefferson St. in Jackson.

Brenda Burnette said she is backing her husband in the venture because it’s something he’s always wanted to do.

“I hope the community will support us with this,” she said.

It seems the community has shown their support; on the business’s opening morning, the Burnettes said they served approximately 50 to 60 people.

Burnette’s Diner offers an array of home cooked fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Patrons of Burnette’s can choose from an assortment of biscuits, burgers, fried chicken, vegetables, daily specials and a Sunday Buffet.

Burnette’s also offers a discount for senior citizens.

The diner will be open daily. Monday through Saturday the eatery will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Breakfast will be served from 6-10:30 a.m., lunch from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and dinner from 3-8 p.m.
