RICH SQUARE — Christmas is a holiday for all ages.

That notion was proven when the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) and the local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) made their annual visit to five assisted living facilities in the county.

Last week, Sheriff Wardie Vincent, Jackson Police Chief John Young, Garysburg Police Chief Raymond Vaughan and Fraternal Order of Police member Evelyn Edwards came bearing gifts for the residents in those facilities.

“We’re delivering bags to each nursing facility in the county, giving a token of our appreciation (to the residents),” said Vincent.

The gift bags were filled with useful, everyday hygiene products, such as soap, deodorant and toothpaste.

Edwards said the residents would also find candy treats in their bags as well.

Vincent said area businesses and individuals donated to make the good deed possible.

“It’s a rewarding thing to us, letting them (the residents) know they are appreciated,” said Vincent.

The group’s first stop was at the Rich Square Manor campus in Rich Square.

Each of the lawmen made their way around the room, handing out the gift bags and greeting the residents with well wishes.

Rich Square Manor Administrator Juanita Frazier was appreciative to NCSO and FOP.

“It brings a little sunshine into their lives,” said Frazier.

Frazier added that many of the residents either don’t have family in the area or no family at all, so the simple thought of having visitors brings happiness to the residents.

“We have a lot of organizations in the community and the county this time of year that want to spread some kindness,” she said. “We’re very thankful.”

Director of Nursing Anna Deloatch said the residents love to visit with people, even complete strangers.

“It shows them they have not been forgotten,” she said.
